Diabetic Eye Checkup

It is done for people who are diabetic after putting dilating drop. It is recommended routinely for diabetic people to detect retinopathy early, so the vision can be preserved.

Cataract Surgery (Phaco) with Foldable IOL

Cataract is a clouding that develops in crystalline lens of the eye or in its envelope, varying in degree from slight to complete opacity and obstructing the passage of light. Cataracts typically progress slowly to cause vision loss and are potentially blinding if untreated. The condition usually affects both eyes. Age-related cataract is responsible for 48% of world blindness. Cataracts are also an important cause of low vision in both developed and developing countries. Even where surgical services are available, low vision associated with cataracts may still be prevalent, as a result of long waits for operations and barriers to surgical uptake, such as cost, lack of information and transportation problems.

As a cataract becomes more opaque, clear vision is compromised. A loss of visual acuity is noted. Contrast sensitivity is also lost, so that contours, shadows and color vision are less vivid.

Presently cataract is removed with latest technology of phacoemulsification with foldable intra-ocular lens implantation ((Including Foldable & Multifocal IOLs from AMO, Alcon, Carl Zeiss, Bausch & Lomb, & Etc.) technique in few minutes. The operation to remove cataracts can be performed at any stage of their development. There is no longer a reason to wait until a cataract is "ripe" before removing it. However, because any surgery involves some risk, it is usually worth waiting until there is some change in vision before removing the cataract. Complications are possible after cataract surgery, including endophthalmitis, posterior capsular opacification and retinal detachment.

Laser Vision Correction (LASIK)

LASIK is an outpatient surgical procedure for the correction of refractive errors in the eye (Myopia, Hypermetropia, and Astigmatism). LASIK works by gently reshaping the cornea to improve the ray of light to focus on to the retina. Excimer laser is a cool laser i.e. it does not generate heat in the cornea. The laser energy from the laser removes microscopic amounts of tissue – less than the thickness of human hair to create a new curvature. The absence of damage to the surrounding cells makes this laser safe for the eye. LASIK is used to treat Myopia, Hypermetropia, & Astigmatism.

If you are 18 years of age or older, are diagnosed as near sighted with or without astigmatism, far sighted with or without astigmatism, or have mixed astigmatism, with stable refraction for 1 year, then you may be a candidate for LASIK procedure.

LASIK Surgery is a day care procedure. Patient is awake throughout the procedure and his/her co-operation is vital for the success of the surgery. The procedure by itself lasts for 5 minutes only and is painless.

C3R for keratoconus

Keratoconus (Greek: kerato- horn, cornea; and konos cone) is a degenerative disorder of the eye in which structural changes within the cornea cause it to thin and change to a more conical shape than its normal gradual curve. Keratoconus can cause substantial distortion of vision, with multiple images, streaking and sensitivity to light all often reported by the patient. It is typically diagnosed in the patient's adolescent years. If afflicting both eyes, the deterioration in vision can affect the patient's ability to drive a car or read normal print. C3R is a new surgical procedure to stop the progression of keratoconus. It is a day care, no stitch, no injection procedure done under topical anaesthesia.
